We have just launched LifeChurch Makati. And if you have started attending for the past 2 weeks or plan to attend and make it your home church, there might be a very important question you’re asking: will I grow spiritually in this church family?
Some churches call this process “discipleship”, let’s just call this spiritual growth. At some point in your relationship with God, you crave for more, ask for more and want to get some more.
There’s been a lot of methods around to help you grow. Different churches uses different methods. There’s D12, Classes, spiritual retreats, encounters — all are good ones and probably fit the culture of a particular church family. But the principle is the same: these will eventually lead you to become devoted followers of Jesus.
Here at LifeChurch Makati, we may do it differently — or unconventionally. We don’t claim that we know the exact formula on making disciples, because we don’t. What we know are the ways on how we grew in our relationship with God and how it may be more effective in the setting we’re in.
So, a couple of things: What we are NOT going to do, and what will you expect.
What we are NOT going to do
1. We’re not going to make you super busy. While it would be nice to attend Bible study on Tuesday, small group on Wednesday, parenting seminar on Thursday, weekend retreat on Friday and Saturday, I know that most of you are busy with your work in the offices and being a parent and/or students. We’re not going to bother you with church activities.
2. You are not going to get pressured. I know some discipleship process works that way. You’ve got to read the Bible, 5 chapters a day, witness to at least 2 persons per week, invite people on Sundays, or else… I seriously have nothing against it. On the other hand, we believe that discipleship is a process. And each individual is wired by God differently, therefore responds to learning on different phasing.
What will you expect
We will only ask you 2 things: to come to church every Sunday AND join a small group we call LifeGroups. On Sunday experiences, you’re going to learn something new or be reminded of something you already know. Craig Groeschel and Kuya Prudy will pray and prepare hard to provide you with the “meat” that you can chew each week. LifeGroups, on the other hand, will provide a venue for you to chew some more the word that you received on Sunday. You will be able to reflect what you learned together with your fellow Lifers. You will be encouraged to read the word of God, pray for and be prayed for, and learn from each other in the group.
We believe that through these 2 venues, you will grow constantly in your love for Jesus and love for your fellow men — that, exactly, is the essence of discipleship.
Yes, there will be special courses that you can also expect. There will be deeper doctrinal studies, maybe some seminars — but that’s not going to be part of the regular growth process of LifeChurch Makati.
Being part of LifeChurch Makati is going to be one of your life’s best decision. As your leaders, we will make sure that we will be in constant touch with our own mission: to lead you to become a fully devoted follower of Christ.
